"EUROPEANS SEEK TO REIN IN AMERICAN WAR MACHINE"

Howsat for a headline, huh? Here's one to objectivity, straight from Reuters--and from a reporter by the name of Huda Majeed Saleh, writing from Baghdad. Hmmmm. I'm ordinarily not one to follow stereotypes much, but how surprising is it that Huda Majeed Saleh, writing from Baghdad, would come up with that title? What's surprising (or was once surprising) is that Reuters went with it.

Reuters--the news organ that always puts the word "terrorist" in quotes, and still insists that Osama bin Laden is merely accused of plotting 9-11--gives us that stinking pile of a headline. And the story isn't any better.

Maybe we should start using “objective” in quotes when we speak of Reuters. Or maybe use “Reuters, the “news” organization.”

LOL. Perfect.

They Euro fools begged for our “War Machine” during WWI, WWII, the Gulf War, and Bosnia/Kosovo. To hell with the Euroweenies. In the future, we should let them fight their own battles with each other and with terrorism. The next time the ungrateful bastards need our help, we should tell them to go to hell.

It is worth noting that the current version of this story has shifted the focus to UN and IAEA appeals for “help” from the US, and has softened somewhat the headline. Most of Saleh’s more offensive one-sidedness is still there, but nearer the bottom of the story now.

The story now also bears a joint byline from BAGHDAD/WASHINGTON and has added “Patricia Wilson” to the authors. One might optimistically conclude that the original story was too over the top for even the hyper-relavists at RotoReuters.…

Nah. I’m not that optimistic.

Bryan, you fixed the comment font size. Another victory over oppositional code!

I’m getting there, slowly but surely. Code is my nemesis.

The news orgs know that they will not be allowed to report from Bagdad if the Saddam regime doesn’t like what they say (i.e., the truth). I no longer give any more credence to a story with a Bagdad dateline than I do to a press statement straight from an Iraqi gov’t official.
