QUOTE OF THE DAY

"...going to war without France is like going deer hunting without an accordion. You just leave a lot of useless noisy baggage behind."

--JED BABBIN, a former Deputy Undersecretary of Defense, on MSNBC's 'Hardball' with Chris Matthews

He also said something very similar in this article for The American Prowler.

NATO was formed to protect France and Germany from the Soviet Bloc. Now it may have to be re-shaped to protect the Soviet Bloc from France and Germany!

Why do we keep agonizing about “opposition from our allies”, anyway? Allies are by definition the countries that help us in the present war. Countries that oppose us in the present war are quite simply not allies, and should be treated as such. France and Germany can’t even be counted as past allies; we’ve fought against Germany twice and fought to save France’s bacon three times, but neither has ever helped us in any significant way.

Well, France did help us out in the American Revolution, and sold us Louisiana, but has pretty much been a pain ever since.

Yes, F***** helped us in the Revolution, but was it for more than that they were enemies with England?

Dennis Miller put it well: “I can’t believe they gave us the Statue of Liberty, they must have been throwing it out anyway.”

Dennis Miller has become a voice of reason, hasn’t he.

Very funny hunting reference, and very observative. It is odd the country with what used to be one of the most feared expeditionary forces, the French Foreign Legion, which was used extensively to enforce France’s imperialism, is now balking at US use of force towards a much more justified and palatable goal - ridding the world of a known menace. (Is Hussein the first or last such menace? Of course not, that’s not at issue here.)
