Ramirez is one of the good guys — I don’t think the cartoon was aimed at Bush, but rather at the playing-politics of the Dems and Big Media.
Doesn’t make the cartoon itself a very smart thing to do…
Salon.com started this trend in cartooning in actuality…
My first impression is that it is an anti-politics cartoon and not an anti Bush cartoon. That said, it was poor judgement to use Bush when its obvious people will be hyper sensitive to an image like that. I would like to point out that there have been political cartoons of Arafat and Sharon with every weapon on earth, at one time or another. I would also like to point out that this Bush depction is nothing compared to hundreds of cartoons from the Middle East. I really dont’ see how the drawing in question could be expected to inspire the crazies. It may have been a bad idea, but there’s really very few ways to illustrate the term ‘pollitical assassination’.

Looking at the cartoon a second time, I think you guys are probably right—it’s anti-politics, as opposed to anti-Bush. That said, it’s in extremely poor taste and bringing up what gets run in the Arab press does little to make it better. The Arab press cartoons are among the foulest you can find. It’s also sad that the actual photo’s history has been so poorly understood. Jonah Goldberg put up a post about it in the Corner today—the photog wished he’d never taken it, while brutal the shooter was probably more right than wrong and so forth. I pray the media doesn’t find a similar image for the present war to turn public opinion dramatically against it.

I’m in no way trying to compare the two Presidents, I just want to show mean spirited dead president drawings were around long before Salon.com.
