DEJA VU IN D.C.

Ralph Peters' column today is a masterpiece--nearly every line quotable. One good line of many:

No congressional committee ever won a war, and no columnist ever stopped a terrorist from killing.

Read the whole thing. I could on and on about the history that Peters parallels to our present time, as I've thought of it often since 9-11. But I won't. Just check out the linked column.

Bryan, thanks for linking that column. Even before scrolling to the point in the article where he reveals the who behind the what, I knew he could be refering to only one man. The similarities between the time period of the Civil War and our present day war on terror are remarkable. I know this may sound trite, but I’ll say it anyway. I really believe that George W. Bush in the White House is no event of chance, but rather a providential moving to help keep America secure.

I shudder when I think of what might have happened if Gore had been placed in office instead of GWB.

I’ll echo Brent’s sentiments, and I too guessed Lincoln before Peters revealed it. While Pres. Lincoln was a very moral man and knew his Bible, I don’t believe he was saved. I do believe that the current Pres. Bush (and his dad too!) has accepted Jesus as his Savior and Lord.

Brendan Miniter over at OpinionJournal has an interesting take on the President’s reasons for going to Africa. The responses to the article are worth checking out as well.
