DOES THE LEFT HATE BUSH BECAUSE HE'S A CHRISTIAN?

Ryan Booth says yes. I agree. They also hate him because he's a Texan, because he's a genuine leader, because he carries that (R) after his name and because they're just plain hateful. Hatred is their god--hatred of Bush, of Christians, of America, of anyone that opposes them. Ryan's post includes a link that will show you a sample of that hatred.

The radical left hates Bush about as much as the reactionary right hated (and continues to hate) Clinton. Hate is hate. It’s ugly and unbecoming and is destroying whatever shred of civility in political discourse we have left. It certainly isn’t a Christian virtue, no matter how one tries to justify it.

Hate is a strong word. Consequently, I think I’d limit hatred of Christians to what James Taranto refers to as the Angry Left (something Mr. Huck does in the previous comment as well). Still, I don’t underestimate the influence the Angry Left has on the Democratic Party.

People hate Clinton because he was (is) a traitor, selling us out to both the Chinese and the North Koreans and because he is an immoral scumbag. The Left hates Bush blindly, just the way they hate America. They hate Bush because hate is all they know. They’re nothing without it.

Their entire platform is based on a seething, insane hatred. They’ve no issues of their own. Ever notice that they aren’t FOR anything purely because it is good for America? They’re just against whatever Bush is for, and for whatever Bush is against. Obstructionism and opposition at all costs and damn the logic of it all, along with the consequences for America and Americans.

It’s power that matters to them and let America go down in blood and flames if that’s what it takes to crush that “evil” Bush and get a Terrorcrat back in the White House.

Every time I run across the whole “well you guys hated Clinton” bit, I ask myself a couple of questions.

How many righties and Republicans took to the streets alongside Nazis to protest Clinton policies? None.

How many lefties and Democrats took to the streets alongside Communists to protest Bush policies? Millions.

How many Clinton judges did the GOP filibuster? None.

How many Bush judges have the Democrats filibustered? Three, and counting.

I don’t think Christianity is the first measure. When I look back at the leaders most hated by the Left, the common theme is that those leaders defended America against its internal enemies. Nixon was not conservative even by the standards of 1968, and not especially religious, but he was supremely hated because he worked effectively and steadily against Soviet subversion. Reagan wasn’t notably religious either. No, the Left’s hatred is quite rational: anyone who seriously tries to stop them from destroying America is hated.

I’m a lefty who doesn’t hate Bush. I disagree with many of his policies; but I don’t hate him. Visceral hatred on both the left and the right does no good for anyone; and I frankly find that those whose hatred (and even anger) runs so deep are generally unhappy people with a lot of bitterness in their lives - nearly all of which is completely unrelated to any particular politician. True for both left and right. I’d much rather not be consumed by it. I find it to be much better for my health that way.

Tom, Bryan and ockham show quite effectively where hate lives and from where it springs. Yes, liberals’ main goal is to destroy America. Nothing paranoid about that belief.

Shep, nothing paranoid about the sweeping generalization that “liberals’ main goal is to destroy America” — except that it’s wrong.

I love it when one lefty fails to recognize another lefty’s sarcasm. It’s like that hollow-cocnut sound when two people’s heads get knocked together.

McGehee, I’d pit my “cocnut” against yours any day. On this blog, one can never be sure if what seems like lefty sarcasm is really the bluster that usually comes from righty simpletons - for it is the latter rather than the former that usually makes an appearance here. If you know that Shep is a lefty, you know more than I do. If, in my defensiveness, I misread Shep, I’m content to live with that.

Posted by Jimmy Huck on August 14, 2003 12:25 PM

There was an inherent contradiction in Shep’s comment that screamed “sarcasm” to me. But I, like most righties I know, do have a modest sense for such finer points of communication.

Obviously such nuanced expressions would look like bluster to … some people.

But I’ll give you credit for figuring out what a “cocnut” is. Maybe there’s hope after all.

“Obviously such nuanced expressions would look like bluster to … some people.”

Something like…”Bring ‘em on” (a nuanced communication from the joke that the righties just don’t seem to get)?

Sarcastically, from the left (sorry Jimmy)

Shep, no need to be sorry. As much as McGehee might wish for it, my self-esteem is not wrapped up in being able always to detect sarcasm in a blog comment. In fact, I’m glad I got it wrong; for I much prefer the sarcastic meaning of your comment.

Something like…”Bring ‘em on”

Perfect example, Shep. Thanks.

will read the article in a minute. I don’t Hate Bush. I Dislike Him Very Much. I am not a leftie or a liberal, either. One of the many reasons I dislike him is that he is not only Christian, but a Fundamentalist, which IMO is far worse. I would not describe him as a “genuine leader”..a quick look at his past before the presidency is convincing enough for me. Maybe the combo of his admin,(maybe) but not the man himself. A “genuine leader” doesn’t fail at every business venture (unless you get bailed out by Saudis) I don’t dislike him because he’s an R, but I do dislike his Family’s Past beginning with Prescott, and all the crap they’ve pulled over the years.

I dislike his condescending tone in every speech, as if we are all children to be talked down to. Also? I don’t have to like Bush to Love America.

I have no problem with christians as long as they keep it to themselves, as with any religion.

For the record, I disliked Clinton very much too.

As a libertarian, there are many positions of Bush’s that I disagree with, but I can’t bring myself to dislike him as much as I dislike his predecessors. I believe there have never been greater criminals in the White House than those two and I hope Hillary doesn’t get very far with her presidential ambitions.

First let me say that “lefties” don’t hate Bush because he’s a Christian. Most “lefties” are Christians themselves.

I am not a “leftie”, and I don’t hate Bush, however, I do dislike him because he is simply not qualified for the job. Our relations with other nations has deteriorated to the point of no return under his administration, he continues to blame the economy on 9/11, when in fact the current state of the economy has nothing to do with 9/11 and everything to do with the fact that he has practically made this country bankrupt.

And then there’s that little issue about him doing such a half-hearted job with Bin Laden, and then running off to try to finish what his dad started.

Now we have more poeple dead in Iraq at the hands of the USA (Bush) than “So-Damned-Insane” ever thought about killing, and we have lost so many of our own fine military men and women that it just sickens me.

Yesterday our military accidentally killed 8 Iraqi police officers that were chasing a group of criminals, even after the police offices plainly identified themselves! I know our boys didn’t mean to do this and they would quickly take it back if they could, but these kinds of mistakes are caused by sheer exhaustion and frustration. And because Bush has alienated all of our allies, there is no relief in sight for them.

And then two days ago Bush awards a multi-billion dollar contract to Haliburton (Chaney)to “protect” the oil fields, and then makes sure the story doesn’t run in the American papers!!! Whether you’re a lefty or a righty or and independent, if you don’t care about our troups, then all the other finger pointing doesn’t mean a thing.

Now it’s been reported from our own news agencies that Bin Laden has not only regrouped, but his coalition is stronger than ever with even more members than they had before we struck Afghanistan, and they have planned a major attack on the US!

Since we won’t know what exactly is being planned unless we “luck up” and find one of this cronies that will talk, my question is this…at what point do the American people wake up, stop this “lefty, righty, Democrat, Republican” war and realize that Iraq is not the problem, Bin Laden is the problem and the two are NOT related, contrary to what Bush would have us believe???

I’m assuming that this realization will sadly come when we lose another 3000 precious American lives!

I, for one, would like to see the political “parties” done away with completely in this country, where candidates are not allowed to make ANY reference to whether they are Dem or Rep. That way people would actually have to read the track racords and analyze each candidate before they could vote. But then, if that happened, who would the righty’s and lefty’s have to blame and cuss at when things went wrong??
