A GOOD DAY

The GOP picked up two Southern governorships overnight, while today Howard Dean retreats from his perfectly defensible point about reaching out to white Southern men. The Dems are carping to their doom, and have once again looked a a third of the nation and told it to go to hell. Good luck picking up a single Southern state next year, Dems.

CBS killed its agitprop anti-Reagan movie, moving it to Showtime because, in CBS' own words, the movie was inaccurate. I'd be less charitable, and characterize it as a character assault on a man no longer able to defend himself. In an age where, thanks to our collapsing educational system the average American gets their understanding of history from mass media, CBS' decision to bankroll and run that movie was an obvious attempt at re-writing history. They've been called on it, and they caved on it. Good.

But saving the best for last, President Bush has signed the Partial Birth Abortion ban. I worried in the back of my mind that he'd find a way to betray social cons on this, but I was wrong to worry about that.

A good day, indeed.

I note sadly that a federal judge has blocked the PBA ban before it had a chance to exit the birth canal. This was because the ban failed to pass the crucial constitutional “Do I like this?” test. It is critical to our way of life that no law that makes a judge unhappy should ever be allowed to exist. Otherwise it would mean the end of freedom — the judge’s freedom to make us all do what he wants us to do, that is.

Beautifully said, Lars.

If there were any Republicans in Congress, they would instantly subpoena this man, and hold him up to the light of day in the same way that Congress so often treats corporate executives. Require him to point to the section of the Constitution which gives him the powers of Emperor, and when he can’t find such a section, impeach him on the spot. Since I know with 100.00000000000% certainty that nothing remotely resembling this will ever happen, I know that Congress consists solely of Democrats and Jellyfish.

Well said, both of you. I do want to add that this judge turned emperor’s ruling only affects a few states, so he hasn’t single-handedly overturned the express will of the people, their representatives and president. Yet.
