TWO YEARS INTO THE WAR, SOMEONE ON THE LEFT BUYS A CLUE

Stunning. Thought I'd never see it happen, to be honest--the director of Amnesty International says his troops should focus some of its bile at, you know, terrorists and people who want to kill us all with horrible weapons. Instead of, you know, President Bush for trying to protect us from said terrorists.

It's nice to hear. They're a little slow on the uptake, I'll grant, since we're now over two years and two wars into the anti-terror project. But better late than never, I guess.

On the other hand--he still thinks the anti-war left should approach terrorism with the same zeal with which it attacks Bush? The same--not more? Not even a little more? And, his angle is to keep the anti-war left relevant, as opposed to, say, just getting aligned with the right side of the argument because it's right. They're still morally clueless, after all.

What I find endlessly puzzling is the idea that leftists are more intelligent and more “nuanced” than conservatives. In this case, the intelligent and “nuanced” mind is supposed to find no difference between good and evil, while the “cowboy” supposedly holds to a simplistic notion of black and white.

Well, let’s take it down a notch to remove the human trappings. What’s the difference between a rock and an insect? An insect can distinguish between good and bad things (by insect standards, of course) and tries to avoid or destroy the bad ones. A rock can’t make the distinction by any standards.

Anyone would agree that the insect has more intelligence, more “nuance” than the rock. So why does the rock-like human claim to have more brains than the one who can distinguish good from bad (by human standards)?
