STARVING THE POOR WAS BLANCO'S POLICY

Don't take my word for it. Just consult the Red Cross:

Acess to New Orleans is controlled by the National Guard and local authorities and while we are in constant contact with them, we simply cannot enter New Orleans against their orders.

The state Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.

The "state Homeland Security Department" would be the one under Gov. Kathleen Blanco's direct control. She is figuratively standing in the highway, where she has been figuratively standing since Katrina struck, keeping the Red Cross from delivering supplies to the Superdome.

Which isn't much of a problem now, because there's no one seeking refuge there anymore. But when thousands did need the dome...Blanco was already standing in the way.

She should be impeached.

Just wondering—is the state Homeland Security Department exclusively under the control of the Governor or is it also subordinate in any way to the Federal DHS? If the latter is the case then perhaps the directive to block the Red Cross came from the Feds. The Red Cross could have been notified by the state DHS to not allow entry into N.O. even if the order originated at the Federal level. I generally think many of the problems with the failed evacuation/rescue efforts are the responsibility of local/state authorities, but I won’t be convinced as to the full extent of the culpability of LA’s state goons on this particular issue without knowing the precise structure of the DHS’s chain of command.

Save it Meep. Your ignorance of civics is showing.

States are sovereign entities. If their agencies have any interlinking with federal counterparts, it only involves the disposition of federal funds.

State and federal agencies may talk to each other to insure cooperation and efficiency, but that’s it.

You should read your Constitution a little more closely. It’s not like you’re trying to read that 500+ page turkey the EU’s trying to shove down the throats of it’s citizens.

Ha ha, I guess there are stupid questions. Thanks for the information—probably the “rickety ladders” provision in the EU constitution has rotted my brain.
