Mayor Wants to Ban Death

Rather than deal with environmental regulations that prevent his town from building new cemetary space:

Mayor Roberto Pereira da Silva, of Biritiba-Mirim, came up with the idea because the town’s only cemetery is full.

He wants to bring in a law that would see relatives of people who die before their time face fines or even jail.

The law would make it an offence for the town’s 28,000 citizens to not look after their health properly.

Mayor Pereira da Silva said there was no way of expending the cemetery or building a new one, reports Agora Sao Paulo.

He said: “Eighty nine per cent of the town is rivers, the rest is protected because it is tropical jungle.”

It’s in Brazil. You have to read the article. And you have to have too much time on your hands (as I do sometimes) in order to read the article. So I have done it for you. You’re welcome.

Well, I guess it’s time for the town of Biritiba-Mirim to move somewhere else.

They could always do like europe. I lived in germany for three years and these little 1000 year old towns would have little tiny cemeteries. They never get full because the family only rents the grave for 50 years or so. The family can always pay for another 50 years when the first 50 is up, but who’s gonna pay grave fees for someone who died 100 years ago?

Then they dig up the body and use what’s left for some industrial stuff or some other way of desposing them. Kind of like “soylent green is people” or something like that.

In the past they would just stack the bones in the church vaults.
