Re the Cowboys, I was spared from watching today’s heartstopping action. I was on the road, drumming as the away team in a church a ways from my own. Sometimes it’s better just to plop down on the net and see the score as a done deal. Nearly every Cowboys game this year has been like that—too tense to actually watch and enjoy.
Re the score in Narnia, I honestly didn’t notice it much. I loved the kids and loved the film. It has one or two slow spots, but it’s otherwise well done. I didn’t like the score in LOTR so much—it’s great here and there, and sounds like generic cinematic production music here and there. But I’ve listened to A LOT of production music over the years, so I’m a little more jaded on that stuff than most people. I don’t think the score in Narnia gets in the way.
Narnia and LOTR are similar in some ways, but Lewis and Tolkein were longtime friends so it’s not shocking that their stories would have a little overlap. Fwiw, Tolkien considered Narnia superior to LOTR. Personally I think Lewis is the better writer, and Tolkien is the more imaginitive.
