Yet another lone shooter
Here’s one more for Michelle’s gallery of rogue nuts who just happened to snap and go on crazy shooting sprees and who also just happened to be steeped in the ideology of radical Islam:
Kasi, a Pakistani, couldn’t decide whether to go on a shooting spree at the Israeli embassy or at CIA headquarters. He ended up taking his AK-47 down to Langley because, he told FBI agents:…he decided to do the shooting at the CIA or the Israeli embassy but decided to shoot at the CIA because it was easier because CIA officials are not armed.Kasi’s spree killed two and injured three. Unlike this nutbag in Seattle, Kasi deliberately avoided targeting women, claiming it was “against his religion”. Then he fled to Pakistan, where he stayed until the FBI arrested him in 1997. He’s now on death row, his last apeeal having been denied on Sept. 11, 2001. Said the attorney who prosecuted Kasi:
“If he wasn’t a terrorist, I’ve got to get a new definition.” Four Americans were killed in Pakistan in apparent response to Kasi’s 1997 trial. “I’ve tried an awful lot of killers in my life, and I think he’s the only one I’ve run into that is absolutely proud of what he did. You get a lot of killers who don’t feel all that bad about what they did, but he’s proud of it”.
George Santayana said something that might fit well here, but for the life of me I can’t remember it…something about history and repeating it…
UPDATE: Mir Amal Kasi was executed on November 15, 2002. Note the article says he fired “randomly” at cars; in fact the quotes in the link above suggested he was quite selective about who he shot and where he shot them. His last words were “There is no god but Allah”.
