I was emcee at a dinner outside beautiful Camden, NJ, where a public safety organization was awarding a medal to a civilian in a similar situation.

As I was reading the award citation, I got to the line that read “…shooting the perpetrator, dropping him to the ground immediately.” At that point I was interrupted as all 400+ people in attendance, mostly cops and firemen, rose to their feet and cheered as though he had just scored a sudden-death field goal at the Super Bowl.

Good cops like armed law-abiding citizens.

Thanks, Neotom, and from the cops I know I think you’re right. I think the spokesman’s statements showcase the PC-PR mentality that a department has to put on to function in the Bay Area.
