The evil that men do lives after them...

...the good is oft interred with their bones. And Christopher Hitchens is doing his damndest to make sure that happens to Rev. Falwell.*

I mentioned below that he did some good work in his lifetime; here's HotAir commenter Tim Burton enumerating some of it:

Hell, for everyone who was up in arms over his hating of homosexuality he helped get hospices set up for AIDS victims of all sexuality. He preached pro-life and practice it too. He set up places for single women who were pregnant and gave them work training and if they decided to give the child up for adoption helped get the child to a good Christian family.

He preached that public education was an absolute failure (seeing how I work in public schools I know that is true), so he set up a K-12 school and helped get poor people into it. The school’s scores would make any private school and ALL public schools would be jealous.

He bought Liberty Mountain, which had residential developers looking at buying and built some of the university at the base and preserved the rest so it would retain it’s natural beauty.

He set up a law school that teaches Original Intent.

And then there's this, which is a pair of dots I'd never quite connected. Interesting how Roe v. Wade created what the left might think of as "Falwellism".

*I'd accuse Hitchens of tap-dancing on Falwell's grave to sell his atheism book, but the fact is, he's this unpleasant about the religious all the time. I have thought of a nice thing to say when our worst president in recent memory, Jimmy Carter, kicks off, and I would refrain from snarkage and bitterness at the untimely passing of destructive moonbats like, say, Rosie O'Donnell or Cindy Sheehan. But Mister Oxbridge Superbrain Mctrotskypants doesn't feel bound by those same social norms of common decency, because his stupid ideology is just sooooooo much more important.

He's a lot like Fred Phelps that way.
